Bonsai

A bonsai is a tree that has taken decades not to grow. Every branch it has not grown was someone’s decision.

I photographed a few specimens, projecting layers of light and image onto them until time was no longer legible. What remains is not the tree: it is the patience accumulated within it.

No colour, no scale, no date. Just a form that has withstood the rush of time.

It is the same silence as that of the Pampas, found at the geographical opposite end, in the minimal gesture of the East, where subtraction is the highest form of creation.
